In one sentence

A page, not a paragraph.

Buddy is a free iPhone app from Whim Studio that turns any question into a visual, interactive report: a designed page with photos, ranked options, comparisons, charts, a real map when places are involved, and the sources behind it. You can tap into any item, ask for changes and watch the page update, restyle it, set it to repeat as a scheduled briefing, and publish it as a link anyone can open.

Designed, not dumped

Every report is laid out like a page: a headline that answers the question, photos, ranked options, a comparison or weighted score, charts, a real map when places are involved, and the sources at the end.

Tap into it

Every option opens its own page. Ask a follow-up and the report updates in place. When Buddy needs a decision from you, it asks with a tap-to-answer question card, not a paragraph.

Make it look like yours

Pick Classic, Sunday Paper, Neon Terminal, or Princess, or ask for any look by name. Looks you name are kept for next time.

Set it to repeat

Ask once. Get it every morning.

Flip Recurring and a report becomes a briefing. Pick the days and time with the dials, or just type it: every day at 7am. Buddy builds a fresh edition on schedule and sends a notification when it is ready.

  • Publish it, share the link

One tap turns a report into a page anyone can open in any browser, kept current until you unpublish it. Shared reports never show your name.

  • See what others asked

Trending is a feed of reports people chose to publish, shown anonymously. Save one to read later, or give it a heart.

  • Connect the sites you use

Sign in once, and Buddy can open and read those sites for you when a report or briefing needs them.

Built on a browser

It works on the page you're on, too.

Under every report is a full browser with Buddy inside it. Ask about the article you are reading, or hand it an errand and watch it tap through the real site, one visible step at a time. It preps the last step and stops before any payment or sign-in.

Questions

Frequently asked.

What is Buddy?

Buddy is a free iPhone app from Whim Studio that turns any question into a visual, interactive report instead of a chat reply. Ask about a place, a purchase, a topic, or a plan, and Buddy researches it and hands you a designed page with photos, ranked options, comparisons, charts, a map, and sources. Under it is a full mobile browser with Buddy inside, so it also works on any page you are reading.

What is a Buddy Report?

A page Buddy writes and designs for your question. It opens with a headline that answers the question and a short deck, then sections that fit the topic: highlights, ranked options with photos and ratings, a comparison table or weighted score, figures with charts, a timeline or step list, a gallery, a real map you can tap through to directions, caveats, and the sources at the end. Every option opens its own page, and a report card stays pinned in your chat so you can get back to the conversation that made it.

How do I get a report?

Tap Buddy and ask. You can say it outright, for example a report on high-end Chinese in Tribeca, or ask a normal question and let Buddy decide. When either a short answer or a full report would do, Buddy asks which you want. A report takes a few minutes to research and build, you can leave the page while it works, and Buddy tells you when it is ready.

Can I change a report after it is built?

Yes. Keep talking to it: ask a follow-up or a change, and the report updates in place instead of starting over. When Buddy needs a decision from you, such as dates, budget, or who it is for, it asks with a tap-to-answer question card, one question at a time, rather than a paragraph.

Can I change how a report looks?

Yes. Open Report style and pick Classic, Sunday Paper, Neon Terminal, or Princess, or ask Buddy for any look by name, such as make it vintage newspaper. Looks you name are kept in your styles to use again, and you can set one as the default for new reports.

What is a briefing?

A report that repeats. Flip Recurring when you ask, tell Buddy what it should cover and when it should arrive, and pick the days and time with the dials or just type it, such as every day at 7am. Buddy builds a fresh edition on schedule and sends a notification when it is ready. You can pause, edit, or delete a briefing at any time. The free plan includes one recurring briefing, and Buddy Plus adds more.

Can I share a report?

Yes. One tap publishes a report as a link anyone can open in any browser, on any device, and the page stays current until you unpublish it. Shared reports never show your name. Listing a report in Trending is a separate switch, off by default, so a link you send stays private to the people you send it to.

What is Trending?

A feed of reports other people chose to publish, shown anonymously and ranked by what readers are opening, liking, and sharing. You can save a report to read later or give it a heart. Nothing in Trending shows who made it.

Does Buddy also browse for me?

Yes. Buddy is built on a full browser. Ask about the article you are reading, or hand it an errand such as comparing flights, filling in a form, or finding a table, and watch it tap through the real site one visible step at a time. It preps the last step and stops before any payment, purchase, or sign-in so the final move is yours.

Is Buddy free?

Yes. The app and every browser feature are free, the AI assistant includes 30 free messages, and the free plan includes one recurring briefing. Buddy Plus is $4.99 a month for a larger daily allowance and more briefings, billed through your Apple ID and cancellable any time in Settings. Buddy runs on iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later.

Which AI models power Buddy?

Depending on the feature, Buddy uses Anthropic's Claude, SpaceXAI's Grok, or open-weight models hosted by Cerebras. No request goes to a provider until you turn on Buddy's AI, and you can turn it off again at any time in Settings.

What happens to my data?

Your request and the page context you allow go through Whim's server to the AI provider only when you ask. Chats stay on your device: Whim does not keep your chat messages, page content, or screenshots in its application database. The reports and briefings Buddy builds for you are kept on Whim's servers so you can reopen and share them, with the newest ones retained and older ones pruned. Providers generally delete inputs and outputs within 30 days, subject to their stated exceptions, and under Whim's agreements they do not use your data to train their models. There is no account or sign-up: a random Buddy ID links usage records. Private Browsing keeps pages hidden from the AI by default, and Delete My Data removes your records at any time. Full retention details are in the Privacy Notice.
